Sofia airport marks downturn in all indicators. Regarding the traffic of the planes the reduction is with 5%, the serviced passengers – 6%, the processed cargo – 26% compared to May last year. Nevertheless the results of Sofia airport are better than the average for the region, informed the airport.

The airport officials however mark that in May the Bulgarian carriers Bulgaria Air, Bulgarian Air Charter, BH Air and Air Via have transported over 40% more passengers compared to the same month in 2008.

On the regular international lines some operating  carriers mark significant growth of the implemented flights and transported passengers. Among them are: easyJet - with 66 flights compared to 27 in May 2008 and 1,5 times more passengers; Air France – two time more flights and 56 % growth of passengers; Wizz Air - 68 % more flights and 76% more passengers; ÒÀRÎÌ – doubled number of frequencies on the line Sofia- Bucharest. 

33% growth of the passengers flow in the internal lines is due to Wizz Air Bulgaria – the first low cost carrier on the local market, informs the airport.

Some stabilization is observed in the business aviation – the flights are with 7% less compared to May 2008. Strong is the negative effect of the world crisis on the cargo transportation – the flights have decrease with 25%, and over 30% is the reduction in the cargo.
